Leadership & Driver Requirements
We require at least 3 adult leaders for every campout.
If we have insufficient drivers for a campout, we may require a parent to do pickup and drop off.
Food & Water for Monthly Campouts
Come Fed on Friday
Scouts should come to the hall having dinner before the Friday the troop leaves for the campout.
Who buys food? The grubmaster for the Patrol.
Each patrols select a grubmaster to buy food for the meals on the campout: Sat & Sun breakfast, Sat Lunch, Sat Dinner. Ask your scout well before the campout if they volunteered or you may be surprised driving to the hall at 5:40pm on Friday. The scout has a budget of $24 per scout in the patrol. That is $6 per meal for each of the 4 meals. The patrol may not be his exact patrol as patrols may get combined for campouts. Make sure you also know how many scouts he is buying food for. Early in the scout process it does not hurt to confirm this with the scoutmaster.
Scouts serving as grubmasters are able to checkout their patrol's cooler and dry goods box from the shed before they go shopping. This is generally coordinated with the Troop's Quartermaster during a Tuesday meeting.
The campout planner (meal planner and duty roster) for each Patrol Leader is available here.
NOTE: Grubmasters should ensure that they have paper towels and trash bags in their patrol's dry box.
The reimbursement process is documented here.
Each Scout is responsible for his own mess kit (plate, bowl, drinking cup and utensils).
Patrol chuck boxes are available through the Troop and are assigned to each patrol. Some supplies are in the chuck boxes, but each patrol should make sure that their patrol box is stocked with all necessities and for notifying the Troop Quartermaster of any needed supplies.
For normal (non-backpacking campouts), the scout should only have their water bottle filled and tightly closed so it doesn’t drench their stuff. For backpacking campouts there will be 2-3 weeks of preparation troop meetings where the scout will be taught what to pack.
No. Not unless medically necessary. The scouts act as a patrol and extra food can cause social and pest issues.
For all troop campouts including monthly campouts and summer camp, we meet at and depart from the parish hall, and we arrive at the parish hall for pickup on return.
Meeting time for monthly campouts is 6pm for departure to the campsite from between 6:30 pm and 7 pm.
Return to the parish hall is typically between 10AM and 3PM Sunday depending on the efficiency of the scouts and the distance needed to travel.
Non-troop campouts include council events like STEM, NYLT, winter camp, and conservation weekend. In those cases, parents take their own scout or coordinate with other parents.
The troop leadership take RSVPs from scouts and leaders and know how many adults and scouts are going and how many “seat belts” are needed. They plan to have enough seats for all scouts and recruit additional drivers as needed.
Some scouts need to arrive late or leave early for conflicts. It is critical that this coordinated with the scoutmaster. Don’t drop off your scout without a positive hand-off with the scoutmaster. Similarly, don’t pick up the scout without one. If the scoutmaster is not there, please text him and have the hand-off with another uniformed leader.
