The "dress" or more formal uniform is officially called the "Field Uniform" but colloquily referred to as the "Class-A" uniform.
Scouts BSA Uniform Inspection Sheet lists where patches are placed on a uniform and how the whole uniform should be worn. Scouts BSA insignia is a reference on nearly all scouts BSA insignia. The troop does not do formal uniform inspections. However, at Boards of Review a scout may be requested to have his board re-scheduled if he does not come properly attired. The expectations on a proper uniform increase through the ranks.
The scout shop can advise you but you don’t have to buy more than we say. The troop may have a supply of preowned ones that scouts have grown out of. So please ask.
Tan uniform shirt. The scout shop has one with pre-sewn on council patches. You may purchase these and sew them on yourself. Do not buy troop numbers at the scout shop. We will provide that.
Merit Badge Sash: This can wait until your scout has earned his first merit badge. Before buying the short variety of sash, consider that your scout may grow a foot taller and earn dozens of merit badges you may have to re-sew.
The scout handbook – Yes. This is part of the uniform. The scout should take it to all troop meetings and campouts. This is needed for learning, signoff, and teaching other scouts. We have some for purchase from our advancement coordinator
Do not use “Badge Magic” to apply patches. It will eventually mar your scout’s shirt.
