We were founded on December 12, 1996. We are deeply committed to being a scout-led troop to encourage the growth and development of our scouts. We place a high value on scout skills and being in the outdoors. This page describes some of what we do. This is BSA's overview of boy scout troops.
We meet weekly to build scout skills, have fun, and plan and prepare for campouts.
We campout one weekend a month from Friday night to Sunday Afternoon. Each campout has one or more themes:
Canoeing (1-2 times per year)
Backpacking (2-3 times per year)
Swimming
Campouts with local Arrow of Light (AOL) and Webelos to introduce them to Scouts BSA.
Some of the places we go include:
State Parks including Pedernales, Enchanted Rock, Lost Maples, Inks Lakes, Guadalupe, Colorado Bend, Government Canyon, McKinney Falls, Mustang Island, Monahan Sandhills,
BSA properties including Griffith League, Lost Pines.
National Forests including Davey Crockett
In April, we compete against the other District Scouts BSA Troops in Camporee. The camporee skill competitions take place by patrols. These competitions usually cover fundamental outdoor skills like fire building, knot tying, or cooking… or they could just activities just for fun like relay races, memory games, and more. All camporee events are friendly and intended to motivate Scouts to master basic skills, engage in respectful competition, and further develop youth leadership and teamwork. A highlight of the weekend is the closing campfire, where top scoring patrols will receive awards and everyone has the chance to enjoy Scout Spirit and friendship.
We have a float in the parade and perform service throughout the weekend.
During the second full week of June, we travel to summer camp. Some of the ones we have been to in recent years include Camps Alexander, Cris Dobbins, San Isabel in Colorado and Camp Rainey Mountain in Georgia. If we are travelling west, we stop overnight at the Kwadhdi museum where we enjoy a fine meal before we see a performance honoring Native American customs.
Barring cancelations by Philmont, we typically send 1-2 crews on 50-80 mile 12 day treks on average every other year. This is for scouts 14 and older and have multiple additional weekends of backpacking prep at some of the above parks as well as the Hill Country Natural Area and Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch (BTSR).
This organization holds car shows, cook offs, and sporting clay shoots to benefit local children’s charities. We perform service at these events including trash pickup and other volunteering.
In October we go out with the local cub scout packs in our Sacred Springs District (Hays County). Webelos Woods is a weekend of fun activities, intriguing Scoutcraft demonstrations, outdoor adventures, ceremonies, and a bridging crossover for Webelos Scouts and their parents. It is designed to introduce Webelos Scouts and their parents to some of the exciting adventures of Scouting
We support our meetings site by volunteering at their fall event
We collect food for local food pantries.
Annually We hold one or more shooting days at Hog Heaven where scouts shoot 22 caliber rifles and 12- or 20-gauge shotguns.
Often a group of scouts arrange a contingent to Winter Camp during winter break, STEM Adventure Weekend (September), Stemboree (March), and Conservation Awards Weekend (October and April), and Central Texas Spring-O (Orienteering). These additional events at the scout’s initiative allow more opportunities to earn merit badges, STEM and conservation awards, and provide conservation service.
